Oakwood, OH Movers | Tobin Brothers Moving and Storage

Oakwood is Dayton's grand old suburb — brick Tudors and stately colonials on tree-lined streets off Far Hills Avenue and Shroyer Road, many dating to the NCR era and full of antiques, pianos and art. A move here is about care, not speed: original hardwood, plaster walls and heirloom pieces that have to be handled right. Kevin leads these jobs himself, and our crew treats the house like it's our own.

Same-day figure on paper

Point us through the place room by room, flag the stairs and tell us where a truck can sit — a firm number comes back that same day, in writing.

One flat rate, nothing bolted on

Pads, shrink wrap and tape already sit inside that figure, so nothing gets re-tallied after the ramp comes down.

Packing, some of it or all

Kitchens get dish barrels, closets get wardrobe cartons, and anything glass or stone rides in a crate we build to fit.

One lead from first box to last

Whoever sizes up your home is the lead on the truck and the one who runs the closing walk-through — no hand-off midway.

From the estates near Hills & Dales and Smith Gardens to the Tudors along Oakwood Avenue, these are homes with fine finishes and heavy, valuable pieces — the kind of move where the crew you send matters more than anything else.

What an Oakwood move calls for

  • Guarding original hardwood, plaster and staircases with runners and pads
  • Crating or blanket-wrapping art, mirrors and antiques
  • Uprights, grands and gun safes — Kevin’s specialty
  • Slow, careful stair carries in older Tudors with tight turns

Pricing: $118/hr for two movers and a truck, $168/hr for three, one-hour minimum, pads and boxes included. Larger Oakwood homes go flat — a four-bed with a full basement typically lands $1,760–$2,850 in writing after we walk it.

The right hands on the heavy pieces

My brother Kevin runs the antiques, pianos and safes personally, so the family heirlooms and the baby grand ride on our own padded truck with our own crew — never subcontracted out.

Moving to Oakwood — common questions

We have an upright piano and several antiques in our Oakwood home. Do you move those yourselves?
Kevin handles pianos, safes and antiques personally — no subcontractors. We pad, strap and use the right equipment on the stairs, and crate anything fragile so it rides safe on our own truck.
How do you protect original hardwood and plaster in an older Tudor?
We lay floor runners and cardboard over the hardwood, pad the banisters, newel posts and doorframes, and walk heavy pieces slowly rather than pivoting them on a turn. The finishes are half of what makes these homes.
Our furniture and art are valuable. What coverage do you carry?
You can choose full-value protection over the basic released rate, and every shipment carries up to $1,000,000 of cargo coverage. For high-value art and antiques we note them and crate them so they're documented and protected.
Do you use your own crew or day labor for a job like this?
Our own, always — uniformed movers on our payroll, no day labor and no brokering. Kevin and I are a family-owned Dayton company, licensed and insured, and we don't hand an Oakwood move to strangers.

How Our Crew Runs a Move

  1. 1

Free quote — ten minutes, tops

We handle: Tell us how many rooms, whether it’s stairs or an elevator, and the nearest legal spot for the truck; a flat written price follows.

What helps most: Keep any building COI rules and elevator windows nearby — that’s what turns the number from a guess into an exact figure.

  2. 2

We nail down the date and access

We handle: Any freight elevator gets reserved and we clear curb space with the city, so the truck parks at your door instead of down the street.

What helps most: Line up the two dates — when you’re out of the old place and into the new one — and pass us the tighter of the two.

  3. 3

    Wrap & protect

We handle: Every piece of furniture goes under a moving blanket, upholstery gets shrink-wrapped, and bed frames and table legs come apart into bags tagged with their own hardware.

What helps most: Mark each box with the room it’s headed to, and carry papers, keys and anything small and valuable yourself rather than loading them.

  4. 4

Load, haul, set down & review

We handle: Whoever loads the truck is who unloads it — pieces land where you point, beds go back together, and we haul off the packing debris.

What helps most: Walk the place with the crew lead before the truck rolls off, while anything still left to fix costs you nothing.
