Local Movers in Dayton, OH

Since 2011 my brother Kevin and I have run Dayton home moves off one plain promise: a flat price in writing up front, our own uniformed two- or three-man crew, and the same steady rate whether it lands on a Monday or a Saturday. We load out of the Wagner Ford Rd yard, and the Tobin name goes on every job sheet.

Same-day figure on paper

Point us through the place room by room, flag the stairs and tell us where a truck can sit — a firm number comes back that same day, in writing.

One flat rate, nothing bolted on

Pads, shrink wrap and tape already sit inside that figure, so nothing gets re-tallied after the ramp comes down.

Packing, some of it or all

Kitchens get dish barrels, closets get wardrobe cartons, and anything glass or stone rides in a crate we build to fit.

One lead from first box to last

Whoever sizes up your home is the lead on the truck and the one who runs the closing walk-through — no hand-off midway.

Home moves across Dayton and Montgomery County, loaded by our own W-2 crew for one flat figure you approve before we start. No hourly clock ticks while somebody circles the block hunting a spot near your door.

Two hands or three?

A studio or one-bedroom in an elevator building clears fine with two of us. Add a basement, a Kettering split-level, or a staircase every stick has to ride down, and Marcus puts a third mover on the board to keep the day on schedule.

Crew Per hour Suits
2 movers + truck $118 Studios, 1-beds, elevator buildings
3 movers + truck $168 Houses, basements, tight stairwells

What a Dayton move usually runs

These are the flat prices we write most weeks. Pads, dollies, shrink-wrap and wardrobe boxes already sit inside the number, and a Saturday costs no more than a Wednesday.

The job Written flat rate
Studio or 1-bed apartment $360–$560
2-bedroom home $640–$1,000
3-bedroom house $1,060–$1,700
4-bedroom or larger house $1,760–$2,850

Heading out of Ohio instead? See long-distance moving, or hand off the boxes with full packing.

What the Flat Rate Already Covers

Everything listed here is baked into every job as standard — not one line reappears as an extra when the final bill lands.

  • A flat price put in writing and signed before we ever tip a single dolly
  • Two- or three-mover crews sized to the home and quoted as one total, not an open meter
  • Blankets, dollies, shrink-wrap and wardrobe boxes carried on the truck at no add-on
  • The same uniformed Tobin crew from the Wagner Ford Rd yard working both ends of the day
  • Beds, dressers and tables broken down at the old place and stood back up at the new one
  • Runners over slushy porches and a salted ramp so an icy Ohio load-out stays safe
  • Released value at sixty cents a pound, with a full-value protection option to add on

Common Questions

Is Tobin Brothers an actual moving company, or do you just book someone else?
An actual one. Tobin Brothers Moving and Storage is a family-owned, licensed and insured Dayton mover — Kevin and I run our own trucks and our own uniformed crew, with Ohio PUCO household-goods registration plus US DOT and MC authority for interstate work.
There's no good spot for a truck on my street — what then?
Diane and Marcus plan the approach before the date, whether that means an early start ahead of Dayton traffic or a smaller shuttle to ferry loads from a narrow drive in Oakwood. You won't watch the crew idle while a space frees up.
My house has a steep, narrow staircase — does that add to the bill?
No. We measure the flights and landings when we scope the job, so a walk-down basement in Centerville is counted into the flat number up front and never sprung on you mid-move.
Who actually turns up on move day — your people or day labor?
Ours — every mover is a uniformed Tobin Brothers employee on W-2 payroll. I started this with one truck and my brother in 2011, and Marcus dispatches the same crew whose names sit on your job sheet — we never hand a move to last-minute fill-ins.
How early should I book a Dayton move?
Ten days to two weeks of lead time is usually plenty to hold a good date. The end and start of the month fill first, and summer turns around the University of Dayton term go fast, so lock your date with Diane once it's firm.
The move, start to finish

How Our Crew Runs a Move

  1. 1

Free quote — ten minutes, tops

We handle: Tell us how many rooms, whether it’s stairs or an elevator, and the nearest legal spot for the truck; a flat written price follows.

What helps most: Keep any building COI rules and elevator windows nearby — that’s what turns the number from a guess into an exact figure.

  2. 2

We nail down the date and access

We handle: Any freight elevator gets reserved and we clear curb space with the city, so the truck parks at your door instead of down the street.

What helps most: Line up the two dates — when you’re out of the old place and into the new one — and pass us the tighter of the two.

  3. 3

    Wrap & protect

We handle: Every piece of furniture goes under a moving blanket, upholstery gets shrink-wrapped, and bed frames and table legs come apart into bags tagged with their own hardware.

What helps most: Mark each box with the room it’s headed to, and carry papers, keys and anything small and valuable yourself rather than loading them.

  4. 4

Load, haul, set down & review

We handle: Whoever loads the truck is who unloads it — pieces land where you point, beds go back together, and we haul off the packing debris.

What helps most: Walk the place with the crew lead before the truck rolls off, while anything still left to fix costs you nothing.
